Embden goslings are typically covered in soft gray to silvery down when young, sometimes with lighter yellow tones on the underside. As they mature, they develop pure white feathers, along with bright orange bills and legs. They have a long, upright posture and a clean, smooth body shape. Embden geese are a large, fast-growing breed. They mature quickly and develop into one of the heaviest domestic geese (Ganders: 26-30 lbs; Geese: 20-24 lbs). Generally calm and docile when handled young, Embdens can become more territorial or protective as adults—especially during breeding season. With regular handling, they can be quite friendly. Females lay about 20–40 large white eggs per year, typically in the spring. Embdens are very hardy and adaptable, tolerating cold weather well thanks to their dense feathering. They thrive with access to pasture and clean water.
