Originating in England over a century ago, Light Sussex chickens are a time-tested dual-purpose breed known for their striking white plumage with black neck and tail feathers. Bred for both meat and eggs, they remain a favorite on homesteads and small farms for their versatility and classic look.
Hens lay 200–250 large light brown eggs per year and grow to a solid size, making them suitable for the table as well. Light Sussex are hardy, adaptable, and do well in both free-range and confined environments.
With their calm nature, reliable production, and rich history, Light Sussex chickens are a beautiful and practical addition to any flock.
Valley Farms Hatchery has selectively bred the Light Sussex since 2024.
